Ghana-Zimbabwe Ties Strengthened at State Banquet

Ghana and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with President John Dramani Mahama hosting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at a State Banquet in Accra. The event highlighted the historic bonds between the two nations, forged through their shared struggles for independence and Pan-African unity.

According to President Mahama, the connection between Ghana and Zimbabwe “predates formal diplomacy” and is rooted in the ideals of visionaries like Kwame Nkrumah and Robert Mugabe. He emphasized that the evening was “not merely ceremonial; it is a celebration of a relationship shaped by history, enriched by shared experiences, and sustained by genuine human connections.”

President Mnangagwa echoed these sentiments, reflecting on Ghana’s historical role in Zimbabwe’s liberation. “Most of my colleagues received training here in Ghana for the armed liberation of Zimbabwe. We are forever grateful to Ghana,” he said. The visit presents opportunities for strengthened business-to-business cooperation and trade.

The State Banquet was marked by the exchange of gifts, symbolizing the enduring friendship and cultural ties between Ghana and Zimbabwe. President Mnangagwa received gifts of fugu and kente, while presenting a bag made from crocodile skin and a unique artefact to President Mahama.

The visit underscores the longstanding ties between Ghana and Zimbabwe, with both nations committed to advancing strategic cooperation, trade, and sustainable development. As the two leaders explored ways to deepen their partnership, the State Banquet served as a testament to the power of historical connections and shared aspirations.
