Austria Humiliates Ghana’s Black Stars 5-1 in Vienna Friendly

Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, suffered a heavy defeat to Austria in an international friendly match in Vienna yesterday, losing 5-1. The Austrians dominated the game, with Marcel Sabitzer scoring from a penalty midway through the first half.

Austria’s pressure paid off, and they continued to pile on the pressure, with Michael Gregoritsch and Stefan Posch scoring in quick succession to make it 3-0. Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Ghana in the 77th minute, but Carney Chukwuemeka and Nicolas Seiwald sealed Austria’s emphatic win with late goals.

The defeat raises concerns for coach Otto Addo as Ghana prepares for the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group I. “We are not satisfied with the performance, and we will work hard to improve,” Addo said in a post-match interview.

Ghana will now focus on their next friendly against Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026, in Stuttgart, as they look to bounce back from the defeat.

The Black Stars will need to regroup quickly, as they face stiff competition in their World Cup group, including England and Croatia.
