NPP Urged to Keep Party Disputes Private

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from airing their dirty laundry in public, emphasizing the need for internal unity as the party prepares for its upcoming flagbearer contest. Speaking on Christmas Eve, Afenyo-Markin stressed that the manner in which party members engage with each other will determine the party’s readiness to return to power.

The Minority Leader’s comments come amid lingering tensions within the party following its defeat in the 2024 general elections, which has led to internal divisions and public disagreements among party members. Afenyo-Markin urged members to focus on rebuilding and uniting for the future, rather than engaging in public spats.

Afenyo-Markin’s sentiments were echoed by gospel musician Nicholas Omane Acheampong, who called on NPP members to unite and aim for victory in the 2028 election. Acheampong emphasized the importance of avoiding internal rivalry and disputes, especially during the party’s primaries.

The call for unity comes as the NPP prepares for its January 31, 2026, primaries, with several potential flagbearer aspirants jostling for position. Afenyo-Markin urged party members to conduct themselves with decorum, humility, and respect, and to rally behind whoever emerges victorious after the primaries.

By keeping party disputes private, Afenyo-Markin believes the NPP can project a united front and increase its chances of returning to power in 2028. The Minority Leader’s comments have been seen as a bid to promote party unity and discipline, and to encourage members to resolve their differences internally.
