Pastor’s Fatal Fast Sparks Concern on Spiritual Extremism

A Mozambican pastor has died after embarking on a 40-day fast, attempting to emulate Jesus’ biblical feat. Francisco Barajah, founder of the Santa Trindade Evangelical Church, succumbed to his ordeal while being treated at a hospital in Beira. According to church officials, Barajah’s condition deteriorated significantly after 25 days of fasting, leading to his hospitalization.
Barajah’s decision to fast for 40 days was reportedly inspired by Jesus’ 40-day fast on the Mount of Olives. However, his extreme weight loss and disfigured body frame in recent days had raised concerns among his followers and neighbors.
“It was clear he was not well, but he was determined to complete the fast,” said a church member. “We tried to persuade him to seek medical help, but he refused.”
Barajah’s death has sparked concerns about spiritual extremism and the influence of religious leaders on their followers. The incident highlights the need for responsible spiritual guidance and the importance of prioritizing health and well-being.
The Santa Trindade Evangelical Church has not issued an official statement on Barajah’s death, but church members are mourning the loss of their leader.
The incident serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between faith and physical well-being, and the need for moderation in spiritual pursuits.
