The High Court in Accra has adjourned the bail hearing of Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to Thursday, May 21, 2026. According to #3NewsGH, the adjournment was granted after the state requested time to file its response to the bail application.
The prosecution, led by Assistant State Attorney Grace Delali Tali, cited the need for additional time to consult investigators and familiarize itself with the case. However, Abronye DC’s legal team, headed by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, strongly opposed the request, arguing that the state had already been served with the application on May 14, 2026, and should have been prepared to proceed.
The court, presided over by Justice Halima El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, ultimately granted the state’s request, directing the prosecution to file its response by close of day. The judge emphasized the need to balance the rights of the accused with the demands of justice.
Abronye DC is facing charges of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and publication of false news, stemming from alleged derogatory remarks against a judge and attempts to incite the public against the judiciary. His legal team has argued that his continued detention infringes on his constitutional rights and poses concerns regarding his health and personal liberty.
The case has sparked significant interest, with senior NPP officials and party supporters gathering at the court premises in solidarity with Abronye DC.
