Chief Justice Strengthens Ties with Police

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, at the Police Headquarters, as part of efforts to enhance collaboration and coordination across Ghana’s justice and governance architecture.

According to reports, the Chief Justice’s visit aimed to discuss issues of mutual interest, including delays in the prosecution of cases, enhancing the capacity of police prosecutors, and security for court premises and judicial officers.

The Minority in Parliament has, however, criticized the Chief Justice’s institutional visits, labeling them a “thank-you tour” and questioning the purpose and timing of the engagements. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed concerns that the visits create the impression of political motivation rather than purely judicial intent.

Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has been on a series of courtesy calls to key state institutions, including the Vice President, Minister of Finance, and Ministry of Education, to strengthen collaboration and discuss priority initiatives.

The Chief Justice emphasized the need for the judiciary and police to deepen collaboration on training to enhance prosecution, particularly in evidence gathering and preservation. Dr Dampare, the IGP, praised the Chief Justice’s efforts to improve the justice delivery system.

The outcome of these engagements is expected to enhance the effective administration of justice in Ghana.
