Lawyer Kusi Boateng, counsel for Akosua Serwaa, has revealed that he has received numerous threats following his involvement in the high-profile case involving Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni, the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s wives. According to GhanaWeb, Boateng stated that even his wife was threatened, putting pressure on him to withdraw the appeal filed against a Kumasi High Court ruling.
The Kumasi High Court had ruled that both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori, alias Odo Broni, are recognized as the late musician’s surviving wives. However, Akosua Serwaa’s legal team filed an appeal, challenging the decision, citing that the court erred in rejecting her German marriage certificate.
Boateng expressed frustration, stating that the threats have not deterred them from seeking justice. “After filing the appeal, I have received several threats. Even my wife was threatened, and because of that, she even pressured me to drop the appeal. Despite the threats, I realised we have a very strong case. Why else would someone attempt to intimidate me to stop pursuing it? We are standing for justice, and we will get it,” he said.
The controversy surrounds Daddy Lumba’s estate, with both women claiming rights to his properties. The court has since recognized both women as customary wives, dismissing Akosua Serwaa’s claim of being the sole spouse.
Akosua Serwaa has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Kumasi, seeking to overturn the High Court’s decision. The outcome of the appeal is eagerly awaited, with many following the case closely.
