A man has been arrested in Berekum, Ghana’s Bono Region, for allegedly killing his brother and sister-in-law over a disputed cashew farm. The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Yeboah, ambushed his brother and wife with a cutlass, leaving them with severe injuries. They succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at a health facility.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the attack was triggered by a long-standing disagreement over the ownership of the cashew farm. The victims were on their way to the disputed land when the incident occurred. The police retrieved a cutlass from the scene, which is being used as evidence.
Emmanuel Yeboah was arrested and remanded into police custody on January 3, 2026, by the Berekum Circuit Court, presided over by Osei Kofi, for attempted murder and causing harm. With the victims’ deaths, the charges are expected to be upgraded to murder.
The incident has shocked the Berekum community, highlighting the devastating consequences of unresolved land disputes in rural Ghana. The police are urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue.The suspect is scheduled to reappear in court onJanuary 12, 2026, for further proceedings.
