President John Dramani Mahama Joins MPs to Commiserate with Family of Late Ayawaso East MP, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama

 

Former President John Dramani Mahama joined other Members of Parliament to pay their last respects to the late Ayawaso East MP, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The funeral rites, being conducted in accordance with Islamic tradition, are taking place today, Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office on the Kanda Highway.

 

According to reports, President Mahama personally intervened to expedite the release of the body from the mortuary, enabling the family to proceed with the burial arrangements. The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is leading the Janazah prayers, which commenced at 10:00 a.m. The late MP will be laid to rest at the Madina Cemetery.

 

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, a fourth-term MP, was known for his dedication to urban renewal in Nima and youth empowerment in Zongo communities. He served as Vice Chairman of the Energy Committee and was a member of several other parliamentary committees. His passing has created a significant void in the Minority caucus and among inner-city constituencies in Accra.

 

The Ayawaso East Constituency is somber as residents, political leaders, and dignitaries gather to bid farewell to their late MP. The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has deployed personnel to manage the expected heavy traffic and large crowds.

 

Hon. Naser Toure Mahama’s legacy as a grassroots leader and bridge-builder has earned him deep respect among constituents. He was a humble and accessible leader, despite his political stature.

 

The funeral proceedings are a testament to his impact on the community, with thousands of mourners expected to attend.
