Sammy Gyamfi Lauded for Transforming Ghana’s Economy

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has praised GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi for achieving in months what typically takes years, highlighting GoldBod’s significant role in reserve building, currency stability, and key economic reforms. Dr. Forson described GoldBod’s establishment as a deliberate policy response to structural weaknesses in the economy, particularly the need to build reserves, stabilize the currency, and tame inflation.

The Finance Minister noted that GoldBod was conceived as part of a broader reform agenda designed to strengthen Ghana’s macroeconomic foundations. He commended Sammy Gyamfi’s leadership, stating that the pace and scale of work undertaken at GoldBod since its establishment have exceeded expectations.

Dr. Forson highlighted the importance of institutional coordination in delivering results, pointing to collaboration among GoldBod, the Bank of Ghana, and other strategic state institutions. The alignment between GoldBod and COCOBOD in building reserves has strengthened the central bank’s ability to intermediate effectively, contributing to improved currency stability and easing inflationary pressures.

The Concerned Small Scale Miners Association (CSSMA) has also commended Sammy Gyamfi for his strong and effective leadership at GoldBod, noting that his efforts are helping to realize President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for Ghana’s small-scale and artisanal gold mining sector.

GoldBod’s operations have contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s foreign exchange earnings through formal gold purchases and reduced leakages, supporting the economy by easing inflationary pressures and contributing to the appreciation of the cedi.

The government is intensifying anti-smuggling efforts to maximize benefits from Ghana’s mineral wealth and strengthen the cedi, with GoldBod playing a crucial role in this endeavor.
