NDC Vows to Fight On After Court Ruling

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vowed to continue fighting for justice after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kpandai parliamentary election petition. According to a statement from the NDC, the party is aggrieved by the decision and will explore all available legal options.

Speaking after the ruling, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, South Dayi MP and NDC legal team member, urged party supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, insisting that the legal battle is far from over. “This is not the end… the ruling of the court will be found… by the 6th of February. When we obtain the ruling, and the certified true copy, and we study it, we will advise ourselves,” he explained.

Dafeamekpor accused the NPP of double standards in its attitude towards the judiciary, saying the party attacks the courts when rulings go against them but praises the same courts when decisions favor them. He emphasized that the NDC respects the decision of the court and will guide its candidates on the next steps to take once the full ruling is made available.

The Supreme Court had ruled that the Tamale High Court made a mistake when it annulled the 2024 parliamentary election result, effectively restoring the Kpandai seat to the NPP’s Matthew Nyindam. The apex court granted an application for certiorari filed by Nyindam, who challenged the High Court’s jurisdiction to nullify his election.

According to GhanaWeb, the NDC’s legal team is considering applying for a review of the Supreme Court’s decision. The party’s position follows a Supreme Court decision that nullified the Tamale High Court judgment that had annulled the parliamentary election results in the Kpandai Constituency of the Northern Region.

The people of Kpandai had voted in the 2024 parliamentary election, and the outcome has been the subject of intense legal battle. The NDC’s determination to pursue the matter further underscores its commitment to lawful processes and democratic principles.
