
*Breaking Barriers: Lt. Col. Jacqueline Dela Galley Takes Helm of Ghana Military Police*
In a historic milestone, Lieutenant Colonel Jacqueline Dela Galley has assumed command of the Ghana Military Police (GMP), becoming the first woman to lead the elite unit. She took over from Lieutenant Colonel Percy Odartey Lamptey on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in a ceremony marked by military traditions and a symbolic handing over of the unit’s Badger Dog.
According to the Ghana Armed Forces, Lt. Col. Galley’s appointment is a significant stride in the GAF’s commitment to gender mainstreaming and merit-based appointments. Brigadier General Albert Assiamah, Deputy General Officer Commanding the Support Services Command, described her appointment as “well-deserved” and emphasized the GMP’s critical role in maintaining discipline and morale within the military.
Lt. Col. Lamptey, who has been reassigned as Deputy Director of Inspection and Monitoring at the Inspector General Department, highlighted infrastructural developments undertaken during his tenure, including the renovation of office blocks and the installation of a transformer at the Military Police quarters. He expressed gratitude to personnel for their support and congratulated Lt. Col. Galley on her appointment.
The GMP plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order within the military, enforcing military regulations, and providing security for military personnel and installations. Lt. Col. Galley’s leadership comes at a time when the GMP’s role is more critical than ever in supporting the Military High Command.
