Policewoman’s Fatal Shot: Taxi Driver Killed in Tetegu Junction

 

A female police officer has been arrested and is currently in custody after allegedly shooting and killing a taxi driver at Tetegu Junction in Accra’s Weija area. The incident occurred on January 19, 2026, following a confrontation between the officer and the driver over a fare disagreement.

 

According to eyewitnesses, the officer boarded the taxi in Dansoman and threatened to shoot the driver when they reached Tetegu Junction. The threat was carried out, and the driver was shot in the chest. The officer, who is stationed at the National Headquarters, attempted to flee the scene by throwing away her pistol and running into a nearby bush.

 

However, she was knocked down by an Uber driver and subsequently handed over to the Weija police patrol team by Okada riders. The officer is currently receiving medical treatment at the New Weija District Police Command. According to the Ghana Police Service, exhibits recovered from the scene include one live 9mm round, a magazine, and one empty 9mm cartridge.

 

The police have launched a full investigation into the incident, and the body of the deceased taxi driver has been transported to the Police Hospital for preservation, identification, and autopsy. Residents of Tetegu are calling for justice and transparency, highlighting concerns about trust between civilians and law enforcement.

 

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that the matter is being treated with seriousness and that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
