Settlers’ Brutal Push to Clear West Bank Lands

Israeli settler attacks across the occupied West Bank are forcing Palestinians out of Area C, with daily violence and intimidation tactics employed to empty the land of its indigenous population. According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the situation is dire, with settler violence driving forced displacement in strategic locations.

The pattern of displacement is stark: settlers erect outposts near Palestinian communities, restrict access to water and grazing land, and unleash waves of violence, destroying property and infrastructure. Last night, around 300 settlers attacked Halawa and Al Fakheit villages in Msafer Yatta, Hebron, injuring several Palestinians and torching homes and property. Such attacks have become almost a daily occurrence.

According to Ajith Sunghay, Head of OHCHR OPT, “The law is clear: Israel must end its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, halt settlement expansion, and evacuate all settlers.” The international community is increasingly alarmed by the escalation, with the UN rights office warning that forcible transfer of Palestinians within the West Bank is a war crime.

Since October 2023, six entire communities comprising 112 families have been forcibly displaced in the northern Jordan Valley, with over 4,000 Palestinians displaced due to settler violence across the West Bank. The affected communities, primarily Bedouin and herding households, face restricted access to basic services and are often met with violence when trying to resist eviction.

The situation is part of a broader trend of settler violence, which has seen a significant spike since October 2023, with armed settlers targeting Palestinians and their properties. The Israeli government’s stance has emboldened settlers, who see the ongoing situation as an opportunity to push forward their agenda of forcing Palestinians out.

As the situation continues to unfold, Palestinians in Area C are left grappling with uncertainty and fear for their future.
