The alert was first shared by Pan African TV, which described the situation as a serious clash between the two neighbouring communities at the Bani concession. While details of what triggered the fight remain unclear, community sources link it to disputes over access to the gold mining site, a common flashpoint in mining areas across the Upper East Region where tensions over concessions have previously turned deadly.
This incident mirrors recent mining-related clashes in Ghana. Just last week at Nsuapemso in the Eastern Region, a violent clash at the Nawara Mining concession left two persons dead and two others injured during a joint National Security and Police operation, with eleven suspects arraigned. Security experts warn that illegal mining disputes, chieftaincy and community rivalries over gold concessions continue to fuel insecurity in mining communities from Gbane in Talensi to Tongo.
This is an urgent call for peace and immediate intervention. Stakeholders in Gban and Namoulog are urged to exercise restraint and allow security agencies to handle the matter. Let us act now to prevent the situation from getting out of hand in Bani.
