Firearm Bust: Two Arrested in Oti Region

The Oti Regional Police Department has arrested two individuals for possession of a firearm and ammunition without lawful authority. According to the Ghana Police  Service,  the suspects, Abubakari Salam Atfah, 35, and Kabuja Kwadwo Tademe, 19, were intercepted at a checkpoint while transporting the illicit goods in a Kia Rhino vehicle with registration number GS 4677-17 from Accra to Kpando.

 

The driver, Atfah, and the mate, Tademe, who claimed ownership of the firearm and ammunition, are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. The police operation was intelligence-led, highlighting the force’s commitment to curbing gun-related crimes in the region.

 

Details of the firearm and ammunition seized are yet to be disclosed, but the police are expected to provide further information as investigations unfold. The suspects are likely to appear in court soon.

 

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal firearm possession and transportation. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

 

The case has sparked concerns about gun violence and the need for stricter enforcement of firearm regulations.
