Volta Regional Minister Champions Youth Empowerment at Red Cross Camp
Ho, Volta Region – The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has emphasized the critical role of young leaders in driving humanitarian action and community resilience. He made the call at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Volta Regional Youth Camp and Leadership Training of the Ghana Red Cross Society at Sokode Senior High Technical School.
The five-day camp, themed “Empowering Youth Leadership for Humanitarian Action and Resilience,” brought together young people from across the region to equip them with skills, values, and mindset needed to serve humanity. In his keynote address, Minister Gunu reaffirmed the Red Cross’s principle that “Humanity Comes First,” stressing that young leaders are key to addressing climate challenges, health emergencies, and social pressures.
The Regional Chairman of the Red Cross, Mr. Bright Agordzor, outlined the camp’s objectives, including training in first aid techniques, youth leadership development, and volunteer ethics. He appealed for support to sustain the initiative, praising Minister Gunu’s commitment to youth development and humanitarian work. In response, Gunu donated GH¢10,000 to support the camp’s success.
Gunu urged participants to lead with integrity, serve with passion, and apply the values of humanity and resilience in their communities. “When youth are empowered, communities are transformed,” he said, emphasizing that the future of humanitarian leadership begins with the young leaders present. The camp runs until December 23, 2025.
