Ghana’s Refereeing Elite: Daniel Laryea Gets FIFA Nod for 2026

Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has received FIFA approval to officiate international matches across 2026, solidifying his position as one of the country’s top referees. Laryea, a seasoned centre referee and VAR, leads a contingent of 23 Ghanaian officials who have earned FIFA badges for the year.
According to Ghana Football Association (GFA) reports, the approved list comprises 10 Centre Referees, 10 Assistant Referees, one Futsal Referee, one Beach Soccer Referee, and one Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Laryea’s retention as both a Centre Referee and VAR underscores his exceptional standing within FIFA’s officiating ranks.
The GFA presented the FIFA badges at a ceremony, urging officials to maintain high standards. GFA Vice-President Mark Addo charged the referees to uphold impartiality, fairness, and top-class performance, saying, “Aspire for greatness and aim to become world-class referees”.
Laryea’s approval is a testament to Ghana’s continued presence on the global refereeing stage. The Ghanaian referees are expected to officiate matches in various international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup qualifiers and other continental tournaments.
FIFA badges are awarded annually to top-ranked referees, following rigorous evaluation and fitness tests. The approved referees are authorized to wear the FIFA badge from January 2026 to December 2026, with retention dependent on individual performance.
As Ghana’s refereeing elite gear up for international assignments, Laryea’s leadership is expected to inspire a new generation of officials.
