Trump Calls for New Leadership in Iran Amidst Deadly Protests

US President Donald Trump has called for new leadership in Iran, saying it’s time for a change after weeks of protests that have left thousands dead. This comes after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused Trump of being responsible for the casualties during the protests.
According to Politico, Trump described Khamenei as a “sick man” responsible for the destruction of Iran and urged Iranians to keep protesting. “It’s time to look for new leadership in Iran,” Trump said, adding that Khamenei’s leadership has burdened the Iranian people.
The protests, which began over economic hardship, have morphed into widespread demonstrations calling for an end to clerical rule in Iran. According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, over 3,000 people have been killed and tens of thousands detained in clashes between demonstrators and security forces.
Khamenei has retaliated, labeling Trump a “criminal” for supporting protesters and blaming him for the violence. “We consider the U.S. president criminal for the casualties, damages and slander he inflicted on the Iranian nation,” Khamenei said, according to Iranian state media.
The situation is tense, with experts warning that any US military intervention could lead to a protracted conflict. Iran has promised strong retaliation against any external attack.
The international community is watching closely, as the situation risks spillover effects that could impact energy markets, security cooperation, and international negotiations on issues like Iran’s nuclear program.
