Moral character imperative in Ghana’s progress – Mahama
President Mahama has stressed that while faith and prayer remain central to the country’s development, lasting national transformation can only be achieved through hard work, accountability and a shared commitment to the common good. This, he said while speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held under the theme, *”Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want,”*
The President said Ghana’s progress depends not only on economic policies but also on the moral character of its citizens. He urged Ghanaians to reject corruption, dishonesty and other practices that continue to undermine the country’s development, emphasizing that sustainable economic growth requires ethical leadership and responsible citizenship.
According to him, rebuilding the nation demands a renewed sense of patriotism, discipline and collective responsibility, with every citizen playing an active role in advancing national development
President Mahama also highlighted the crucial role of the youth, encouraging them to cultivate values of integrity, diligence and self-discipline as they prepare to become the country’s future leaders.
Reflecting on Ghana’s recent achievements, the President said the country’s gains demonstrate the resilience of its people, the impact of sound leadership and the importance of faith in God during challenging times. He expressed optimism that Ghana can overcome its current challenges if citizens remain united and committed to the national interest.
He therefore called on all Ghanaians to work together in unity, uphold strong moral values and contribute positively towards building a stronger, more prosperous and inclusive nation for present and future generations.
The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service brought together government officials, religious leaders and members of the public to offer prayers for peace, unity and continued progress as Ghana pursues its national development agenda.
