The New Patriotic Party has rejected government GH¢2650 producer price per 64 kilogramme bag for the 2026 27 cocoa season in Accra arguing it fails minimum threshold under Ghana Cocoa Board Act 2026 Act 1182.
NPP says the price does not reflect world market gains and violates the new cocoa law. The party is demanding full disclosure of calculations used to arrive at GH¢2650 and immediate payment of outstanding cocoa arrears owed to farmers and licensed buying companies.
According to the NPP, Act 1182 prescribes a minimum share of net FOB price to farmers. The party claims GH¢2650 falls below that threshold given current international cocoa prices hovering above $8000 per tonne. It wants COCOBOD to publish FOB assumptions, deductions and net price breakdown.
Government announced GH¢2650 per 64kg bag for 2026 27 season as part of efforts to improve farmer income and curb smuggling. Officials say the price represents a significant increase from last season and is sustainable within COCOBOD financing. The Ghana Cocoa Board manages price setting with Producer Price Review Committee.
NPP also raised concerns over arrears. It alleges many farmers and LBCs have not received full payment for previous purchases. COCOBOD has previously cited funding gaps and loan syndication delays. The party wants audited payment schedule released to restore confidence in cocoa sector.
