President John Dramani Mahama has outlined his vision for Ghana’s chairmanship of the African Union in Accra, saying he wants to make the AU Chairmanship impactful with focus on regional integration, peace and security.
The President said Africa must move from declarations to delivery. He listed trade integration under AfCFTA, conflict resolution and youth employment as core pillars. He noted Ghana is ready to lead with practical results.
He stressed that regional integration cannot wait. According to President John Dramani Mahama, the AU Chairmanship must deliver tangible impact on peace, security and economic integration for Africans. He cited AfCFTA as a game changer for intra African trade.
The African Union Chairmanship rotates among member states and sets the continental agenda for a year. Ghana hosts the AfCFTA Secretariat in Accra, positioning it to drive trade liberalization. The AU also coordinates peace support operations and mediation in conflict zones including the Sahel and Eastern Africa.
Mahama said Ghana will prioritize silencing the guns and strengthening democratic governance. He called for stronger AU financing and faster implementation of existing protocols. Analysts say his return to the continental stage revives Ghana’s pan African leadership role.
