Eight accused persons, including four GRA officials and freight forwarder Francis Narh Amanor, have appeared at the Kwabenya Circuit Court under police escort for a hearing into the alleged clearance of four containers flagged with abnormal scan images at Tema Port. The containers were reportedly intercepted by French customs at the Port of Dunkirk on September 10, 2026, with 3.9 tonnes of cocaine estimated to be worth 261 million dollars.
According to court proceedings, the four containers raised suspicion after abnormal scan images at Tema Port but were allegedly cleared, only to be intercepted by French customs at Dunkirk Port with about 3.9 tonnes of cocaine valued at 225 million euros. All eight suspects, including the four GRA officials, have been arraigned in connection with the case.
The Kwabenya Circuit Court hearing marks a major development in the Tema Port scandal that has triggered intense public scrutiny of port security and customs operations. Police escorted the accused to court amid tight security as prosecutors prepare to outline their case.
Port clearance in Ghana is regulated under Ghana Revenue Authority customs procedures where containers flagged by scanners require physical verification before release. The Kwabenya Circuit Court is expected to rule on remand, bail and further investigations as state prosecutors build the dockets against the eight accused persons including Francis Narh Amanor.
