Ablakwa Unveils No Taxpayer Cost VIP Airport Lounge
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the ultramodern VIP Lounge under construction at the Kotoka International Airport will be completed and commissioned before the close of the year without any expenditure from the public purse. The minister says the project exemplifies innovative infrastructure financing devoid of fiscal pressure.
The minister made the disclosure following an inspection tour of the facility on Friday, fourth September, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and craftsmanship of ongoing works. He indicated that the project remains on schedule for handover within the current calendar year and will significantly enhance dignitary reception protocols at the nation’s principal aviation hub.
Mr Ablakwa is quoted as saying the entire development is being underwritten through corporate social responsibility contributions from indigenous Ghanaian enterprises, with funds disbursed directly to local contractors of their choosing for specific components of the build. He stressed that government is not channelling any monies through state coffers.
The minister stated in a social media update on Sunday that the Foreign Ministry’s Estate Bureau is exercising only supervisory oversight to guarantee strict adherence to architectural standards and specifications.
The funding architecture has been lauded as a paradigm shift in public infrastructure delivery, circumventing conventional public procurement bottlenecks while leveraging private sector patriotism. Analysts observe that such models could redefine how strategic state facilities are executed amid constrained fiscal space.
Upon completion, the lounge is expected to provide world class courtesies for high profile guests, diplomats, and state visitors transiting through Accra, thereby elevating Ghana’s aviation hospitality credentials.
