The Ghana Education Service has interdicted a teacher at Bole Senior High School following the circulation of a video depicting alleged sexual misconduct, igniting fresh scrutiny of safeguarding protocols in second-cycle institutions. The swift administrative action underscores zero tolerance for breaches of professional ethics involving students.
According to the Ghana Education Service, the interdiction takes immediate effect pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation into the conduct captured in the footage that gained traction on social media platforms. The Service stated that the decision is consistent with its Code of Conduct and the overarching child protection framework governing all pre-tertiary schools. A disciplinary committee has been constituted to ascertain culpability and recommend sanctions.
According to Joy News, the video prompted outrage among parents and civil society advocates who demanded decisive accountability and reinforced mechanisms to protect learners from exploitation. The GES emphasized that the interdicted staff member has been barred from accessing the school premises and interacting with students during the pendency of investigations. Psychosocial support has been extended to affected learners through the Service’s guidance and counselling directorate.
The Bole Senior High School incident revives national concerns about educator misconduct, power asymmetries, and the adequacy of reporting channels within school governance structures. According to the Ministry of Education, all heads of institutions have standing directives to activate safeguarding committees and ensure mandatory reporting of suspected abuse. The Teachers’ Code of Conduct criminalizes any amorous relationship between staff and students, prescribing summary dismissal upon substantiation.
While the investigation proceeds, the GES reiterated its commitment to transparency, due process, and the primacy of student welfare. The outcome is expected to set precedent for enforcement rigor and institutional vigilance across the educational ecosystem.
