Volta Region Launches Water Body Protection Initiative

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has commissioned 31 Blue Water Guards in the Adaklu District to protect the region’s water bodies. According to the Minister, the initiative is a proactive measure to prevent environmental destruction, particularly from illegal mining and other harmful activities.
The Blue Water Guards will be responsible for guarding against illegal mining, unchecked sand winning, and pollution of rivers. Minister Gunu emphasized the importance of protecting the environment, stating, “We cannot afford to wait for destruction before we act.”
The programme was organized by the Minerals Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources. The DCE for Adaklu, Hon. Jerry Ameko, and other officials attended the event, demonstrating the collective commitment to safeguarding natural resources.
The Volta Region is not currently a hotspot for illegal mining, but Minister Gunu stressed the need for preventive measures. The Blue Water Guards will work to preserve the region’s environment and secure a healthier future.
The initiative has been welcomed by the community, with chiefs and members expressing their support. The Blue Water Guards have been charged to serve with discipline, integrity, and vigilance.
The launch of the Blue Water Guards is a significant step towards environmental protection in the Volta Region.
