GFA Stands by Thomas Partey Amid Court Battle

The Ghana Football Association has reiterated its support for Black Stars deputy captain Thomas Partey as he faces ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom. Partey, who is a key member of the national team, has been charged with additional counts of rape, bringing the total allegations to offences involving four women.
According to Ghana Soccernet, GFA President Kurt Okraku stated that the association is in constant contact with Partey and is confident in his ability to represent Ghana at the World Cup. “Thomas Partey is our deputy captain and a key member of the Black Stars. The GFA will never sleep over any situation with a player like Partey,” Okraku said in an interview with Asaase Radio.
Okraku further stressed the FA’s backing for the 32-year-old midfielder, stating that they stand shoulder to shoulder with him during these challenging times. “I’m very positive that despite all the happenings, Partey will show up for the World Cup,” he added.
Partey’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 13, with the trial set for November 2. The alleged incidents are reported to have occurred between 2020 and 2022, and were investigated by the Metropolitan Police following an initial complaint in February 2022.
The GFA’s support for Partey comes as the midfielder continues to face challenges in his career, including a lackluster performance at Villarreal. However, Okraku remains optimistic about Partey’s future, citing his strong mindset and preparation to represent Ghana at the World Cup.
