North Tongu Road Project Gets Green Light

The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Yawa Amefadzi Doe, has led a crucial meeting with stakeholders ahead of the official commencement of the Sege–Battor–Mepe Road construction project. The meeting brought together engineers from the Ghana Highways Authority and the Greater Accra Feeder Roads, as well as other key stakeholders, to kick-start the 31.2-kilometer road project expected to be completed within 24 months.

According to the Ghana Highways Authority, the project is a critical route connecting Ada West District to North Tongu District, and its reconstruction is expected to improve access to healthcare, education, and other essential services, enhance economic opportunities, and reduce travel times {{IE_0}}¹{{/IE_0}}.

Hon. Doe urged residents whose structures are encroaching on the road’s right of way to cooperate fully to avoid delays. The contractor has also appealed to local communities to provide security for construction materials and prevent theft, which could lead to shoddy work.

The Sege–Battor–Mepe Road has been a long-awaited development, with residents and stakeholders calling for its reconstruction due to its deplorable state. The road was initially constructed in 1995 but has deteriorated over time, posing challenges to motorists and residents {{IE_1}}²{{/IE_1}}.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the construction firm will also embark on an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in communities along the project corridor. Hon. Doe expressed her appreciation to stakeholders for their efforts in making the project possible, noting that it will significantly improve connectivity, boost economic activity, and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

The project is expected to bring numerous benefits, including improved access to healthcare, education, and other essential services, enhanced economic opportunities, and reduced travel times.
