Samuel Aboagye’s Family Resumes DNA Battle in Court

Samuel Aboagye’s Family and Abigail Salami Resume DNA Battle in Court

The family of the late Samuel Aboagye, a former deputy director at the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has resumed their DNA battle with his widow, Abigail Salami, at the Obuasi District Court. The family is seeking a DNA test to confirm the paternity of Abigail’s child, citing concerns over the child’s resemblance to a prominent politician in the Ashanti Region.

The dispute began after the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash that claimed Samuel’s life, along with seven others. The government requested DNA samples from immediate family members to identify the remains, but Abigail allegedly refused to present her child for testing.

According to reports, Samuel had expressed doubts about the child’s paternity before his death, claiming the child resembled a child of a certain politician. The family believes a DNA test is necessary to settle the matter and has filed a suit seeking a court order to compel Abigail to submit the child for testing.

Abigail, who is based in the United States, has reportedly filed a motion to dismiss the family’s application, and her legal team is contesting the family’s claim on jurisdictional grounds. The case has been adjourned to allow for further proceedings.

The outcome of this case could set a significant precedent regarding posthumous DNA testing and the rights of families in verifying biological relationships for inheritance purposes in Ghana.
