Abraham Amaliba, Director-General of the Road Safety Authority and currently Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is chairing the vetting of Volta NDC Regional Executive aspirants underway at the Regional office of the NDC in Ho today, 17th October, 2026. The exercise forms part of preparations for the Volta Regional executive elections slated for November 2026.

Speaking to aspirants, Mr. Amaliba emphasised the party’s commitment to peaceful, transparent internal elections, stating: “If there’s a problem in the NDC, it’ll go out to the whole country that NDC is not united. Other regions may have skirmishes but Volta Region cannot afford to have the skirmishes.” He stressed that the committee has no interest or favourites at all, adding “Our interest is that elections are conducted peacefully.”

Chairman Amaliba is supported by a five-member vetting panel including Mr. Isahaku Nuhu, Mr. Adzaho Kwabla, Andrews Anani, Joseph Yaw and Rejoice Kasu. The committee is tasked with screening 36 aspirants who filed nominations at the close of nominations on Thursday, October 15, 2026, comprising 29 males and 7 females for various regional portfolios. Key positions include Regional Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Communications Officer and their deputies, with Chairman Mawutor Agbavitor, Organiser Siki Abibu, and Communications Officer Kafui Agbleze filing unopposed.

Among aspirants vetted today is Dr. Stanley Nelvis Glate who filed for Volta Regional Secretary under the campaign message “A Fresh Drive for Volta NDC” and entrepreneur John Paul Semavor for Deputy Secretary. The vetting committee admonished all aspirants to conduct campaigns decorously to engender unity and cohesion even after the elections, ensuring internal contests strengthen rather than divide the party ahead of 2028 general elections.

Volta Region is regarded as the stronghold of the NDC, often described as the World Bank of the party, and therefore expected to set the tone for discipline and unity. The vetting exercise follows guidelines requiring aspirants to have resigned from public office positions where applicable, with Acting Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Mahdi Gibril, confirming ballot printing has begun for constituency-level elections. Regional elections are scheduled for November 14-15, 2026.
