According to Mr. Tieku, Star Oil has grown from a small indigenous Oil Marketing Company (OMC) to Ghana’s largest OMC by market share and volume, driven by local content, affordable pricing and quality service delivery. He said all 3,106 employees are Ghanaian youth, with many being pump attendants, drivers, technicians and administrative staff.
Kwame Tieku noted that Star Oil’s expansion has created over 10,000 indirect jobs through transporters, contractors and dealers. He added that the company is investing heavily in LPG infrastructure, lubricants and ultra-modern service centres to compete with multinational OMCs and support government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
Industry data from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMC) rank Star Oil as the top OMC in Ghana by sales volume in 2024 and 2025, ahead of GOIL and TotalEnergies. Analysts say the story of Star Oil is a clear example of how local Ghanaian companies can dominate key sectors when supported.
