Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Baffour Awuah, has pleaded not guilty to charges of causing over GH₵9 million financial loss to the state. The MP appeared before the court on Friday following investigations into alleged financial irregularities linked to his former public role.

Prosecutors told the court that the MP is accused of actions that led to the state losing more than GH₵9 million, a charge classified as causing financial loss to the state under Ghana’s criminal code. Baffour Awuah, through his lawyers, denied all charges and maintained his innocence, asking the court for bail pending trial.

The court, after hearing arguments from both prosecution and defense, granted the Manhyia South MP bail in the sum of GH₵10 million with two sureties. The judge ordered that the sureties must be justified and that the accused should deposit his passport and report periodically to investigators as part of the bail conditions.

The bail ruling follows similar high-profile financial loss cases where courts have imposed substantial bail sums to ensure attendance. Lawyers for Baffour Awuah say they will work to meet the bail conditions immediately and prepare a strong defense to clear his name.

The charge of causing financial loss to the state is a serious offense under Ghanaian law, often prosecuted by the Attorney-General’s Department and investigated by EOCO. Legal analysts say the outcome will depend on documentary evidence, audit reports, and whether due process was followed in the transactions under review.

Manhyia South constituents have been following the case closely, with mixed reactions on social media. http://Howedey.com will provide updates on the next court date and bail compliance.
