White House asks Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as US ambassador to Greece after a series of reports about alleged misconduct. The White House said on Tuesday that it had asked US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign, according to a briefing by new press secretary Katie Zacharia. The announcement was reported by CNN via https://cnn.it/4s8sARG.

“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign,” said White House press secretary Katie Zacharia at her first briefing. “She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.” US President Donald Trump had said on Monday that he was considering firing Guilfoyle, telling reporters: “We’re not happy,” after lawmakers expressed concerns over allegations that she may have threatened to use US influence to undermine the Greek government.

Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., took office in September 2025 after being nominated in December 2024. Her ouster comes following reports by The Wall Street Journal that she sought money in exchange for providing access to administration figures before confirmation, accepted lavish gifts as ambassador and brought a lobbyist for a Greek construction company into official meetings.

One report alleged she asked Trump donor Eric Deters in a text message to wire her $100,000 to pay off an American Express card in the days before her Senate confirmation, promising to be his “Trump ride or die” if he did. Deters said it was a quid pro quo and did not pay, saying it would cost his marriage. The Journal also reported she promoted a Greek construction firm where her adviser served as lobbyist, without disclosing ties, and accepted luxury trips funded by Greek business figures.

Lawyers for Guilfoyle have denied the allegations about seeking money and said reports about travel were misleading, adding she complied with federal gift and reporting requirements. They said Deters owed her money for speeches and consulting work and called his statements false, disputing authenticity of messages. In a post on X after the White House announcement, Guilfoyle said serving as ambassador has been the honor of a lifetime, thanked President Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio, and said allegations are false and she intends to vigorously defend her name.

Greece has been an important NATO ally to the United States, offering key military facilities to safeguard security in the Eastern Mediterranean and leading an EU maritime mission to protect commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The US Embassy in Athens did not immediately respond to request for comment directed to Guilfoyle.
