Representatives of GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT-GH insisted that government must provide a clear timeline for migrating promoted teachers onto their correct salary scales. The unions say thousands of teachers have waited over a year after passing promotion interviews without seeing any adjustment in their payslips, despite reforms that now allow more teachers to qualify for promotion without administrative vacancies.
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang had earlier explained at the 2026 Ghana Teacher Prize that delays were partly due to growing numbers of promoted teachers, but teacher leaders say explanation without payment is not enough. Schools across Ghana remain closed as public basic school teachers continue their indefinite strike declared last week.
Howedey.com will continue to follow the FWSC, GES and teacher unions dialogue and provide live updates on whether schools will reopen this week. Stakeholders fear the prolonged strike could affect the academic calendar and the School Feeding Programme stocks procured for the term.
