Ato Forson Confirms Salaries For Unauthorised GES Staff
The Ministry of Finance has announced that every Ghana Education Service employee recruited without financial clearance has received full remuneration, decisively dismissing claims of lingering salary arrears and public anxiety over payroll irregularities. The clarification comes after weeks of agitation by a coalition of newly posted teachers demanding settlement of outstanding emoluments.
The Ministry disclosed that it inherited a cohort of six thousand three hundred GES recruits engaged in the previous year without the requisite fiscal authorisation. Upon assumption of office, government initiated a structured remediation process, securing Cabinet approval and issuing financial clearance to regularise the anomalous appointments through a phased disbursement strategy executed in four tranches.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry affirmed that all staff covered under the arrangement have been duly compensated, effectively closing the chapter on the contested recruitment. It further emphasised that no request for financial clearance from the Ghana Education Service remains pending before the Ministry, thereby refuting suggestions of bureaucratic inertia or deliberate withholding of entitlements.
The intervention follows petitions from the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff, which had highlighted delayed payments and administrative bottlenecks. Finance officials, led by Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, maintained that fiscal discipline requires that recruitments align with budgetary ceilings, yet acknowledged the necessity of protecting livelihoods where administrative lapses had occurred, balancing probity with pragmatism.
The Ministry has directed any personnel still experiencing payroll discrepancies to seek redress directly through the Ghana Education Service, which retains responsibility for payroll administration and verification. The resolution is expected to restore industrial harmony within the education sector and reinforce commitment to transparent manpower planning as government intensifies efforts to rationalise public sector wage management.
