The Good Fight
“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” — 1 Timothy
6:12 ESV
The Christian life is not passive. Paul calls it a fight — but not the kind the world fights. It is “the
good fight of the faith.” It is a fight to believe, to obey, to forgive, to stay holy, and to keep trusting God when nothing makes sense. What are we fighting for? “Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.” We fight to keep our eyes on Jesus, to guard our hearts, and to live out what God has already given us in Christ. “For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds” — 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 ESV.
The enemy wants you weary, distracted, and isolated. That’s why Paul tells us to put on God’s armor: “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil
day, and having done all, to stand firm” — Ephesians 6:13 ESV. Truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer — these are our weapons.
We don’t fight alone, and we don’t fight in our own strength. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” — Ephesians 6:10 ESV. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, He gives you courage, discernment, and power to stand. He reminds you of Scripture in the moment
you need it most. Don’t quit. Don’t shrink back. Keep believing. Keep praying. Keep doing good. This is the good fight — and the victory is already ours in Christ.
Prayer:
Father, strengthen me for the good fight. Fill me with Your Spirit and clothe me with Your armor. Help me to take hold of eternal life and to stand firm in faith. I refuse to give up. I trust You to fight for me and through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
