Former Deputy Minister for Defence Kofi Amankwa Brogya Genfi has pledged his unwavering loyalty and commitment to President John Dramani Mahama following his appointment as Presidential Advisor on National Resilience and Emergency Preparedness. Mr Genfi expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him, describing the new assignment as a significant responsibility and a continuation of the trust placed in him during his previous service at the Ministry of Defence.
In a social media post shared on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, he said his latest appointment was particularly meaningful because of the opportunity President Mahama had previously given him to serve as Deputy Minister for Defence. He also reflected on his role following the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and seven others. According to Mr Genfi, following the tragedy, he was entrusted with helping to maintain continuity at the Ministry of Defence, working under the supervision of Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson for about a year.
He said the experience deepened his appreciation of the responsibilities associated with public service and strengthened his commitment to supporting the government in times of crisis. “I assure the President of my unwavering loyalty and dedication in discharging my duties in this new capacity,” he said. Mr Genfi’s new portfolio places him at the centre of efforts expected to strengthen Ghana’s preparedness and capacity to respond to emergencies and other threats to national resilience.
The appointment marks a transition from his previous responsibilities within the Defence Ministry to an advisory role focused more broadly on national preparedness, resilience and emergency response. He used the opportunity to acknowledge the support he received during his tenure at the Defence Ministry, particularly from its directors and staff, as well as the Military High Command and personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces. He also expressed appreciation to the Armed Forces Council, Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC) and the Veterans Administration, Ghana, for their support and cooperation during his period of service.
Mr Genfi’s appointment comes at a time when strengthening institutional preparedness and coordinated responses to emergencies remains an important component of national security and governance. His new role is therefore expected to draw on his experience in defence administration as he takes on responsibilities aimed at helping the country anticipate, prepare for and respond effectively to major emergencies and other disruptions. The former Deputy Defence Minister said he remained committed to serving the country and would bring the same dedication to his new assignment.
