Muntaka To Face Questions On Internal Security, Election Killings

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, will on Monday, August 24, 2026, appear on the Government Accountability Series to account for measures being undertaken to safeguard Ghana against internal security threats. The session, scheduled for 11:00 a.m., is expected to place internal security, public safety and the government’s response to security challenges at the centre of national attention.

A major issue expected to feature prominently is the progress of investigations into killings that occurred during Ghana’s 2020 and 2024 general elections. The appearance forms part of the Presidency Communications’ Government Accountability Series, which provides members of the government with a platform to explain policies, interventions and actions taken in their respective sectors. Mr Muntaka is expected to use the platform to outline what his ministry has done, and is doing, to strengthen Ghana’s internal security architecture and protect citizens from emerging and existing security threats.

The Interior Minister’s presentation highlights continuing public interest in election-related violence and calls for accountability over incidents in which lives were lost during the electoral process. The investigations into the 2020 and 2024 election-related killings are particularly significant, as questions over accountability and the circumstances surrounding the deaths have remained matters of public concern.

Beyond the investigations, the minister is expected to address broader internal security issues, including measures aimed at preventing violence, strengthening law enforcement and improving the capacity of security agencies to respond to threats to public safety. His engagement will also provide an opportunity for the government to communicate its broader security priorities and demonstrate how the Ministry of the Interior is working with the country’s security agencies to maintain peace and stability.

The Ministry of the Interior exercises oversight responsibility over key internal security institutions, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana National Fire Service, making the minister’s account significant to the government’s wider security agenda. The programme is expected to attract considerable public interest, particularly because of the promised update on the investigations into the election-related killings. The Government Accountability Series is being presented by the Presidency Communications, with the Information Services Department also associated with the programme.
