Muntaka Orders Mass Destruction of Seized Guns
Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has declared that a vast cache of confiscated firearms will be obliterated in a public exercise, signaling an aggressive pivot toward disarmament and civilian safety. The move caps a nationwide gun amnesty programme aimed at curbing illicit proliferation.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, the exercise will see the systematic destruction of more than two thousand seized weapons, scheduled for early July. The initiative is intended to eliminate the risk of recirculation into criminal networks.
“This exercise demonstrates our unwavering resolve to mop up illegal arms and restore public confidence in state security architecture,” Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the amnesty window allowed citizens to surrender unlicensed weapons without prosecution, yielding substantial recoveries from private holdings. Ballistics experts will verify each item before demolition to aid ongoing investigations.

By removing thousands of weapons from potential circulation, authorities aim to recalibrate the national security landscape ahead of critical civic events. The destroyed materiel will be rendered irreversibly inoperable through industrial shredding and smelting.
