Airlines Cry Foul Over New $100 Return Ticket Charge

Ghanaian airlines are up in arms over a new $100 charge on return tickets, effective April 1, citing concerns over the impact on passengers and the aviation industry. The charge, which applies to all return tickets, has sparked outrage among airlines, who argue that it will increase the cost of travel and hurt business.

According to industry experts, the charge is expected to generate significant revenue for the government, but airlines are questioning the timing and rationale behind the move. “This charge will only serve to increase the burden on passengers and stifle growth in the aviation sector,” said a spokesperson for one of the affected airlines.

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has yet to comment on the matter, but airlines are urging the government to reconsider the charge. The move comes amid concerns over the country’s aviation infrastructure and the need for investment in the sector.

The charge is expected to affect both domestic and international flights, with airlines warning that it will lead to higher ticket prices and reduced demand. Passengers are advised to factor in the additional cost when planning their travel.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has been silent on the issue, but industry insiders believe that the charge is part of a broader effort to raise revenue for airport infrastructure development.
