GAF Airlifts Stampede Victim to Accra for Treatment

The Ghana Armed Forces has evacuated Sarah Baafi Boateng, a victim of the November 2025 recruitment stampede at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for advanced medical care. The Medical Evacuation team safely airlifted her from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment since the incident.

According to GHOne News, the victim, who remains bedridden, was referred for specialized treatment following an assessment of her condition. A delegation from the Ministry of Defence, led by Principal General Staff Officer Brigadier General Ben Gah, received her at the Airforce Base in Accra and handed her over to the medical team at the 37 Military Hospital.

The evacuation is part of efforts by the Ministry to ensure Boateng receives comprehensive and advanced healthcare support. The 25-year-old had been unconscious since the stampede, which left six people dead and several others injured.

The incident occurred on November 12, 2025, when thousands gathered at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise. The stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols.

Brigadier General Gah described Boateng’s condition as serious, noting that her continued inability to speak pointed to the severity of her injuries. The Ministry of Defence is considering immediate support options, including possible recruitment of a qualified family member.

The Ghana Armed Forces has expressed its commitment to supporting the victims of the stampede and their families.
