NCA Sets New SMS Delivery Benchmark

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has introduced a new messaging quality standard, requiring network operators to deliver SMS/MMS within five seconds and achieve a minimum 98% delivery success rate. According to the NCA, this move aims to improve the overall quality of messaging services in Ghana.

The NCA’s directive is expected to enhance the customer experience, with many Ghanaians relying on SMS/MMS for communication. Network operators are required to take necessary measures to meet the new standard, with penalties for non-compliance.

Speaking on the new standard, an NCA official emphasized the importance of quality messaging services. “We are committed to ensuring that Ghanaians receive reliable and efficient messaging services,” the official said.

The new standard is part of the NCA’s efforts to regulate the telecommunications industry and protect consumer interests. The authority has been working to improve the quality of service in the sector, with a focus on messaging and data services.

The introduction of the new standard is expected to benefit millions of Ghanaians who rely on SMS/MMS for communication. Network operators have been given a timeframe to comply with the new standard, with the NCA monitoring progress closely.

The move is seen as a significant step towards improving the country’s telecommunications infrastructure, and is expected to have a positive impact on the digital economy.
