The Ho Central Mp took out time at 66 Artillery Regiment to engage in the clean up activities
The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Hon Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, together with a team of community members and other stakeholders, participated in the second phase of the National Clean-Up Exercise at the 66 Artillery Regiment in the Ho Municipality, highlighting the constituency’s commitment to promoting environmental sanitation and public health.
The exercise which formed part of the nationwide campaign aimed at improving sanitation, reducing environmental hazards and fostering a culture of communal responsibility saw the Volta Gunners actively involved. Participants undertook an extensive clean-up operation, clearing overgrown weeds, desilting choked gutters, sweeping public spaces and removing accumulated refuse from the area surrounding the military installation.
The clean-up targeted areas identified as potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other disease-causing organisms, particularly as the rainy season increases the risk of flooding and sanitation-related illnesses. The disilting of drains was also intended to improve the free flow of rainwater and minimize the likelihood of flooding in the community.
Environmental cleanliness plays a critical role in safeguarding public health, preventing outbreaks of communicable diseases and creating a safer and more attractive community.
As the clean Ho Central campaign intensifies, residents are however urged to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and public spaces, stressing that such practices undermine the gains made through clean-up campaigns.
Participants worked for hours, clearing weeds and removing silt and debris from drainage channels, and collecting waste from strategic locations around the 66 Artillery Regiment. The exercise significantly improved the appearance of the area while enhancing the efficiency of the drainage system.
The second phase of the National Clean-Up Exercise in Ho Central forms part of broader efforts to support the government’s renewed drive to improve sanitation standards nationwide through active community involvement and regular environmental maintenance.
