Asantehene Receives Guard of Honour in Accra
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was given a grand reception by the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, as he paid a courtesy call to the Police Headquarters in Accra. The ceremony included a guard of honour, a mark of respect and admiration for the revered traditional leader.
According to GhanaWeb, the Asantehene interacted with the Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other high-ranking officers, discussing matters of mutual interest, including security and peacekeeping in the Ashanti Region.
The IGP commended the Asantehene for his role in strengthening policing efforts, particularly in resolving land and chieftaincy disputes, which has contributed to reducing tensions and violence in the region. He also acknowledged the Asantehene’s efforts in addressing illegal mining, stating that his directives to chiefs have helped shape local responses to the issue.
The visit was part of the Asantehene’s tour of various institutions in Accra, showcasing his commitment to promoting peace and stability in Ghana. The Ghana Police Service has been a key partner in maintaining law and order, and the Asantehene’s visit was seen as a gesture of appreciation for their efforts.
The Asantehene’s security team was also honoured with a special dinner party at the Manhyia Palace in December 2024, where they were appreciated for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the King’s safety.
