Floodwaters Submerge Hodzo Aviɛfe Bridge Project
Residents and road users in the Ho Municipality have been advised to exercise extreme caution after the torrential flooding at the bridge currently under construction at Hodzo Aviɛfe, temporarily affecting movement through the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ho, Hon. Stephen Adom, announced the development in a public statement following inspections of the flooded construction site. According to him, the intense downpour led to an excessive volume of rainwater, inundating the bridge project raising safety concerns for commuters.
“Following yesterday’s heavy downpour, the bridge currently under construction at Hodzo Aviɛfe was flooded due to the excessive volume of rainwater,” the statement said.
The MCE explained that movement across the area may be disrupted as technical assessments are carried out to determine the extent of the impact and to facilitate the necessary remedial works.
He therefore appealed to residents, motorists and other road users to remain vigilant and avoid taking unnecessary risks while using the affected stretch.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to restore safe access and ensure the bridge project is completed without compromising quality or public safety.
“We wish to inform residents and road users to exercise extreme caution when using the area, as movement may be temporarily affected while assessments and necessary remedial works are carried out,” he added added.
Photographs released after the inspection show sections of the construction site submerged by floodwaters, with engineers and municipal officials assessing the damage. The images also depict residents navigating waterlogged portions of the road, highlighting the challenges posed by the flooding.
The MCE expressed appreciation to the affected communities for their patience, cooperation and understanding during the period of disruption, assuring them that every effort is being made to address the situation as quickly as possible.
The incident comes in the wake of recent perennial floods in several parts of the Volta Region and other parts of Ghana, disrupting transportation and raising concerns about the resilience of critical infrastructure during the rainy season.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates on the condition of the bridge and the timeline for the completion of remedial works after the ongoing assessments.
