Kpando SHS Tops Volta Region With 75% Pass In 2025 WASSCE
Kpando Senior High School has emerged as the overall best performing public Senior High School in the Volta Region in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, recording an impressive 75 percent pass rate in the four core subjects.
According to a comprehensive analysis released by the Volta Regional Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, Kpando SHS presented 913 candidates, out of which 683 obtained grades A1 to C6 in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies.
The report was presented during a Capacity Building Workshop for School Leadership and Heads of SHS and SHTS aimed at promoting data driven decision making to improve academic performance.
Placing second is the renowned Bishop Herman College, which presented 1,042 candidates with 457 qualifying, representing 44 percent. Anlo Awomefia SHS followed in third position with 39 percent, after 135 out of its 343 candidates qualified.
Mawuli School, one of the region most populous schools, came fourth with 38 percent, recording 624 qualified out of 1,625 candidates presented, while Anfoega SHS placed fifth with 35 percent with 172 out of 494 candidates.
Other top performing schools in the above 20 percent bracket include Volo Community SHS with 32 percent, Sonrise Christian High School, Keta Business College, Sogakope SHS, Keta SHS, St Paul SHS and Akatsi SHTS.
The Volta Region overall recorded only 15.32 percent pass in the four core subjects out of 26,544 candidates from 68 public schools, with five schools recording 0 percent including Kpeve SHTS, Ave SHS, Tanyigbe SHS, Volta SHS and Akome SHTS. This makes Kpando SHS 75 percent achievement exceptional.
WASSCE qualification requires credit passes from A1 to C6 in the four core subjects to gain admission to tertiary institutions. This academic benchmarking system works alongside other national frameworks such as CSSPS which ensures merit based computerised placement for BECE graduates into SHS, Free SHS policy that funds secondary education to reduce dropout, GES monitoring and supervision that supports teaching quality, and Energy Commission certification that regulates qualified electricians similar to how WAEC regulates examination standards and protects against malpractice.
The Volta Regional Education Directorate says lessons from Kpando SHS, Bishop Herman College and Anlo Awomefia SHS will be shared with low performing schools to improve supervision, core mathematics teaching and science practicals.
Stakeholders have congratulated Kpando SHS for topping the region despite the general poor performance that saw Core Mathematics record only 24.99 percent pass regionally.
