Teacher Unions Reject Minister Assurances, Vow To Continue Strike
Teacher unions have rejected assurances from Education Minister on payment of promotion arrears in Accra promising to sustain strike until payments reflect on payslips.
The unions said promises without bank alerts have failed before. GNAT, NAGRAT and CCT Ghana said only validated payslips will end strike. The Minister had appealed for calm saying Controller and Accountant General Department is processing files.
According to the teacher unions, members have endured months of delay after promotion. They said cost of living has eroded old salaries. They insist strike will continue in all public basic and second cycle schools until Controller confirms payment on IPPD system.
GES directed district offices to submit data by 4pm today. Controller and Accountant General says it will upgrade grades once clean data arrives. Labour Act requires essential service negotiation. Unions say strike is legal after expiration of notice.
