Promoted Teachers: GES Ordered To Submit Data By 4pm
Ghana Education Service has been directed to submit data of all promoted teachers to Controller and Accountant General Department in Accra by 4pm today for immediate salary upgrade processing at new grades.
The directive follows pressure from teacher unions and Parliament over delayed promotions. Thousands of teachers passed promotion interviews months ago but remain on old salary scales. Government says submission by 4pm will allow payroll to capture new grades in September run.
According to Controller and Accountant General Department, it has already processed all cases previously submitted by GES but many promotion files were incomplete or not forwarded. The Department said once validated data hits by the 4pm deadline, salaries will be adjusted to new grades with arrears calculated.
GES manages over 300,000 teachers under the Education Act. Promotions require interview, appraisal and IPPD biometrics before payroll upgrade. Delays often occur when regional offices fail to upload documents on time. The 4pm deadline is meant to close that gap and restore confidence.
Teacher unions including GNAT and NAGRAT have warned of industrial action if September payroll does not reflect promotions. Parliament Education Committee has also tasked GES to clear backlog. Officials say new digital validation system will speed future processing and prevent arrears build up.
