Milei Slams UN As Useless Parasites At UNGA
Argentine President Javier Milei attacked United Nations in New York on Wednesday, calling it useless organisation filled with arrogant parasites. Milei took stage at 81st UN General Assembly and used fiery address to slam global body for failing to guarantee collective security and human rights. He declared UN had allowed chaos, violence and international terrorism to flourish.
According to Channels TV, Milei who is close ally of US President Donald Trump, said UN has lost credibility and moral authority. He has pulled Argentina out of several UN bodies, cut funding to UN agencies, and aligned Buenos Aires closely with Washington and Israel. Analysts say his stance reflects Trump-style rejection of multilateralism. For Africa and Ghana, his comments clash with calls by President John Mahama and Kenya William Ruto for stronger UN and permanent African seat with veto.
UN leadership has defended its role amid rising criticism from populist leaders. UN Charter mandates Security Council to maintain peace but veto powers often block action in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan. Reform debate has intensified at UNGA81 with Africa demanding 2 permanent seats with veto. Milei position suggests deeper divide between Global South seeking more representation and libertarian bloc seeking less UN.
