Iran Executes Man Accused Of Spying For Mossad
Iranian authorities have executed a person accused of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad, in a case that has heightened tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv. The execution was carried out after a court convicted the individual of espionage and collaboration with a hostile foreign intelligence service.
The announcement was made by Iranian state-linked media which reported that the accused provided classified information to Israeli handlers. Security officials claimed the intelligence shared endangered national security and military installations. The execution was carried out in accordance with Iranian criminal procedure after the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence.
According to Tasnim news agency, the person was found guilty of maintaining contact with Mossad operatives and transmitting sensitive data in exchange for financial rewards. Tasnim, which is considered semi-official, said the judiciary confirmed the sentence was implemented after due legal process, though it did not disclose the identity of the executed person or the location of execution.
In Iran, espionage for foreign intelligence agencies carries the death penalty under the Islamic Penal Code. Cases involving Mossad are treated as Moharebeh, meaning enmity against God, and as corruption on earth. Trials are held in Revolutionary Courts, with appeals going to the Supreme Court. Iran has executed several individuals in recent years on similar charges, often linking them to attacks on nuclear scientists and military facilities.
Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, is responsible for covert operations, counterterrorism, and intelligence gathering abroad. The agency has long been accused by Tehran of operating spy networks inside Iran, particularly targeting nuclear and defense programs. Israel rarely comments on such allegations, maintaining a policy of ambiguity regarding intelligence activities in hostile territories.
The execution is likely to draw international attention from human rights groups and escalate rhetoric between the two regional rivals. Observers say the development underscores the shadow war between Iran and Israel, which has intensified amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and cyber warfare.
